Friday and Saturday, 11-20-15 - 11-21-15: The Little Manatee River Jam!

Download the Poster

It's time for the 6th annual Little Manatee River Jam, brought to you by WMNF community radio and the Canoe Outpost to benefit WMNF. Thanks to all of you that came out for last year’s great music and camping event. We hope you come again this year and bring along some new friends. For the second year, the Little Manatee River Jam has expanded into a 2 day mini festival. Friday night will feature 3 great bands from 6:30 to 10:00. Saturday will feature six bands from 3:00 to 11:00 including Damon Fowler.
The Canoe Outpost will have food, beer, wine and soft drinks for sale on Friday and Saturday during the shows. We will be serving favorites including burgers, quesadillas, Philly cheese steaks, gyros, French fries, some vegan and vegetarian options and maybe a culinary surprise or two. On Sunday morning, don't miss the big after concert group breakfast including all you can eat pancakes for just $5. Check out the menus and plan to cook less so you can play more. Of course, campers will have supplies at their sites but please, do not bring outside food or drink into the concert area. Help support the concert and come thirsty and hungry.
This weekend offers more too. All weekend long, the Canoe Outpost is offering a great deal on canoeing and kayaking. You get $5 off any canoe or kayak rental when you show your concert ticket AND we will donate $5 to WMNF. The Little Manatee River is a beautiful paddle and a great way to spend some time in nature. For hikers, there is a great 6 mile nature trail, which is part of the Florida Trails system, just across the river. So come on out for the day or the weekend. It’s fun for the whole family.
My wife Andi & I want to thank all the folks who have come out to support this event for the last five years. To all the volunteers that make the event work and the staffs at WMNF and our own Canoe Outpost, a giant thank you for all your work.
See you at the show!

CAMPING
Camping at the Canoe Outpost is a great way to enjoy the event and the river. Rent a canoe or kayak and go paddling, tube, swim, fish or just hang out and relax, maybe play a little music. During this concert event, we reconfigure our campsites and allow camping in unusual areas to allow more folks to stay on the property. Whether you are primitive camping on the river bank, my back lawn or have a reserved site, you will be in close proximity to other campers and this event is more about communal fun than a private, quiet, nature camping experience. So please come with a friendly attitude and enjoy the show and the experience. We have a public bath house, water and electric at all reserved sites and an RV dump station for use after the event. We sell firewood and ice, snacks and drinks, all at good prices too. For you larger needs, chain stores and restaurants are just 3 miles away. Wi-Fi access is extremely limited and available at the office only. So come for the event or stay the weekend, you're sure to have a good time.
Reservations are required as we are a small facility and we expect to sell out and fill up fast. Each year we have a growing number of folks that reserve for next year before the last guitar string has be plucked at this year's show so call early to get the best selection. This year we have added more campsites at the outpost and have made arrangements with an RV park close by for overflow camping so we should not have to turn anyone away. So look over the event map, the site descriptions and lodging options and call the outpost for a reservation today. All camping and lodging must be prepaid at time of reservation and is non-refundable just like the concert tickets are. The event will go on rain or shine. All campers, even those wanting to primitive camp, must call for reservations so we don't get over crowded.
To support WMNF and the show, all people over 12 years old, either visiting or staying on the Canoe Outpost property, must have a ticket to that days show. For convenience, you may just add your tickets to your reservation. Anyone without an entrance ticket/pass/armband will be offered the opportunity to purchase tickets at the then current prices. Anyone who does not have or purchase the required tickets will be asked to leave with no refund given for any camping, lodging or other fees.

Call 813-634-2228 for reservations for any camping or lodging.

In addition to these regular sites, we have created some unusual and reservable sites to try to accommodate extra people. If you have attended the event before, you know we will try to get folks in as best we can since we hate to turn people away. If we could put tents in trees, we would. Call if you have specific questions about these unorthodox sites. The features of these sites are listed below individually. These sites are $24 per night with a 2 night minimum.
Carport sites: Located in a 25’ long x 36’ wide carport with a high metal roof. It is sectioned into 3 stall with posts between each stall. It has a 12’ height clearance in the middle of each stall but entry to the stall is restricted to about 9’ high by a cross beam at the entrance. Due to this, most hard sided trailers and RV’s will not fit but pop up campers, van campers and tents will do fine. It has a cypress mulch ground cover. There are 20amp electrical circuits that may be shared between the 3 stalls. Parking for 1 vehicle is allowed on the property but not right at the site.
Carport #1: 25’ long x 12’ wide, shared 20 amp electric, no direct water hook-up, picnic table, fire ring w/flip over grate, parking for 1 vehicle on property but not at site
Carport #2: 25’ long x 11’ wide, shared 20 amp electric, no direct water hook-up, picnic table, fire ring w/flip over grate, parking for 1 vehicle on property but not at site
Carport #3: 25’ long x 10.5’ wide, shared 20 amp electric, no direct water hook-up, picnic table, fire ring w/flip over grate, parking for 1 vehicle on property but not at site.
RV Overflow #1: This space was created for folks who had friends staying in our rental RV’s but had a small trailer or pop-up that wanted to join the gang. You park at the end of the rental RV’s to form a u shape around the courtyard between the rental RV’s. 20 amp electric and water is available. This site shares picnic tables and campfire with the rental RV’s area. We only rent this site to members of a group staying in the RVs'.
RV Overflow #2: This space is in our main parking lot in the middle of the canoe rental operation. It is intended for folks who have an RV or trailer and just need a parking spot and 30 amp electric hook ups. No water hook up. Picnic table and a fire ring w/flip over grate is provided.
RV Overflow #3 & #4: These spaces are on the lawn by my garage overlooking the river bank. You can pull 20 amp electric from my garage via your RV cord but you may need a 12 gauge extension cord. There is a fire pit shared between these two sites Picnic table provided. No water hook up. Moving into or out of this site (depending on how you position your RV front) will require you to have good backing skills. Checking in or out should be done early as access will be difficult to impossible at congested times.
Dry Camp Parking: If you just need a place to park your VW van and are sleeping in it, you can park here for tent rates of $20 for Friday and free on Saturday. Space is very limited and you must call ahead to reserve. No electric, water, table or fires. No generator usage.
Primitive Tent Camping: Folks wishing to primitive camp have a few choices. Whatever you decide is right for you, be sure to call ahead to reserve your choice. Since most primitive camping areas do not have defined site boundaries, space is limited by the footprint of the gear you bring. So bring what you need to be comfortable but please leave the extra screen room and the kitchen sink at home for this one.
Reservable Primitive Campsites (The backwoods area): In response to requests in previous years for reservable, woodsy, primitive camping, we have now expanded a primitive area in the back woods into a group primitive camp area and we have also added two individual primitive back woods sites. These areas have no vehicle access and are about 300' from the bath house and about 600' from the parking area. We can provide assistance in getting your gear in and out if requested. These areas have picnic tables and fire rings and shared charcoal grills. The cost is $20 per night per tent (maximum 4 people per tent) and they require a two night stay. The group site can accommodate about 5-8 tents. If you have a group of at least 5 tents, you can reserve the entire group area for exclusive use, otherwise this will be a shared area. The two individual primitive sites are for 1 tent . Vehicle parking will be outside the gate on Hwy 301. These sites are a great way to be in the woods, more remote but still just a minute walk down a wooded path to the concert area.
General primitive tent camping for Friday & Saturday: General primitive camping cost is $20 per tent for Friday and Saturday is free. You may reserve a non-specific spot for Friday night, arrive to set up anytime Friday, and keep the same spot for Saturday free. This assures that you get a spot, the same spot, for Saturday too. Spots are selected by you on a first come first serve basis in person when you arrive. No specific spots are reserved so as to allocate space more efficiently. You may drive in to drop off gear near your camp area but you will have to park on Hwy 301 with the other concert goers. No picnic tables - SMALL ground fires are allowed unless you are camping on a lawn area - public restrooms for showers/bath/water. Be sure to call for reservations.
General primitive tent camping for Saturday only: Primitive camping on the Canoe Outpost property is free for Saturday night only, if space is available. To support the Friday night show and WMNF, priority is given to those staying Friday & Saturday nights through advance reservations. In recent years, most space has been filled by folks staying both nights and only a few spots were open for folks wanting to stay just Saturday. If you can only stay Saturday and still want to be guaranteed a spot, please read about the Masonic Camp options below. You must call up to 7 days in advance to be put on the list so that we do not get over crowded. Once you are on the list, you may show up on Saturday anytime after 8:00 AM. Spots are selected by you, in person, on a first come first serve basis. You may drive in to drop off gear near your camp area but you will have to park on Hwy 301 with the other concert goers. No picnic tables. SMALL ground fires are allowed unless you are camping on a lawn area - public restrooms for showers/bath/water.
Masonic Camp Overflow: We hate to turn anyone away who wants to camp and attend the festival. Space is limited on the Canoe Outpost property, so for the second year, we have made arrangements with the much larger Masonic Camp for extra RV and primitive tent spaces. The Masonic Camp is located about 3/10ths of a mile south of the outpost on the opposite side of Hwy 301. It is a 5-10 minute walk or a 1-2 minute drive away from the Canoe Outpost. For folks using bicycles or walking, it is possible to reach the outpost without having to cross Hwy 301 by going under the river bridge and entering through the outpost walk in gate. If you choose to drive to the outpost, you would park on the outpost side of Hwy 301 with the rest of the concert goers as close to the entrance as space allows. On Saturday as the big show goes on, car parking will be extending down 301 almost to the Masonic Camp entrance.
The Masonic Camp is welcoming concert goers and we want to be sure that folks that camp there are respectful of the property and of the rules and restrictions of the organization. In particular, the rules about designated parking areas and campfires. This is not a place for excessive partying and no overt use of alcohol is allowed. We hope you understand and cooperate so that we may continue to utilize this property.
Masonic Camp RV Spots: They offer full hook up sites with water & sewer, electric, picnic tables, a bath house and they offer good wi-fi access. Campfires are allowed ONLY if you provide your own off the ground fire pit or charcoal grill. They charge $35 per site per night plus tax and can accommodate larger RVs. No tent camping is allowed in the RV areas. One night stays are allowed so this is a great option for folks who could not get an RV site at the outpost or who can only stay one night. Reservations are required and all details are handled directly with the Masonic Camp by calling (813) 633-9010.
Masonic Camp Primitive Tent Camping: Primitive tent camping at the Masonic Camp is on a large grassy area by a lake. No picnic tables are provided and campfires are allowed at your tent ONLY if you provide your own off the ground fire pit or charcoal grill. There is also a shared fire pit by a pavilion by the lake. This pavilion will also have one electric power strip for charging phones etc. No electric is provided for any other devices or appliances. Water and access to a bath house is located in a building about 300' away from the tent area. No wi-fi access is provided. Parking will be on a grassy area along the camp road. You may choose to set your tent close to your car or walk further out to areas around the lake. The cost is $10 per tent per night with a one night minimum. Reservations are required and should be made through the Canoe Outpost by calling (813) 634-2228.
